If you search for a PDF to PNG converter, the first results are usually online services that take your PDF, convert it on their servers and send the images back. iLovePDF, Smallpdf and Adobe all offer this. It works, but it means a contract, a statement or a design file passes through someone else's machine just to become a picture.
iLoveDevTools's PDF to PNG does the conversion in your browser instead. The PDF is opened with pdf.js, each page you pick is drawn to a canvas and encoded as PNG locally, and nothing is uploaded.
PNG is lossless, so text, line art and diagrams stay crisp, and it supports transparency. That makes it the right choice for slides, documentation screenshots, logos and anything you will place on another background. The tool renders at 1x (72 DPI), 2x (144 DPI) or 3x (216 DPI). 2x is a good default for screens; 3x is for sharp zoomed-in text or modest printing. Pixels grow with the square of the scale, so a 3x page has nine times the pixels of 1x and a much larger file.
Choose Transparent and any area of the page the PDF does not paint is left see-through. That works well for logos, vector diagrams and charts exported from design tools. It does not remove a background the PDF draws itself: many designed or scanned PDFs paint a white or coloured rectangle across the page, and that is page content, so it stays. If you need a cut-out of a scanned page, you need an image editor, not a PDF converter.
Thumbnails let you pick exactly which pages to convert. One page downloads as a .png; several download as a single .zip. Browsers limit canvas size, so an enormous page at 3x (a large poster or map) can exceed it; the tool tells you which page and size failed instead of producing a blank image, and a lower resolution fixes it.
The output is a picture, so the text is no longer selectable or searchable; if you need the words, use PDF to Markdown or OCR PDF. Password-protected files cannot be rendered until you remove the password with the Unlock PDF tool. A hosted service can process very large files on faster hardware, offer cloud-drive import, and run batches across hundreds of documents. And if you want smaller files from a photo-heavy PDF, the PDF to JPG tool gives you JPG instead.
For a private document, or a quick conversion with no account, the browser version does the job without the file ever leaving your device. For bulk or automated conversion on a schedule, a server-side service or a command-line tool is the better fit.
